Flexibility and thinking out of the box are key to team performance

Research from Deloitte's Center for the Edge shows that culture is the most important driver to be successful, not the processes within the organization. But is this always so black and white?

Are you flexible enough?

Processes are good, give structure and are 'a way of work'. No one will disagree on that. Too much adherence to old cumbersome processes, people no longer work with that. What millennials don't like and find annoying about those processes, you can read in our other blogs about 'The myths about millennials' and 'When do millennials find you a nice manager?' (Dutch articles). Reflection is an important part of how someone does his/her job. Can you switch quickly between tasks? Are you flexible enough to learn new things besides your 'daily activities' and put them directly into practice? This is the adoption of new processes or techniques. Do you look further than the '9 to 5 mentality? Flexibility has everything to do with the way and speed how you solve problems.

Flexibility is expected within a team of all colleagues. If this is not the case, you will get crooked faces. That is not what you want when it comes to team performance. Want to know more on this? Then check out the MT article - the guitar coordinator to improve your teams.

Do you think out of the box?

The next conception on team performance? No. This is largely about 'thinking differently' and innovation. In order to come up with new ideas, it's important that employees and organizations interact transparently with each other, communicate openly and want to break silos and build bridges. Here you need a team too. It's an illusion to think that you can do everything by yourself. Everyone has a different perspective on a certain topic and asking questions contributes to the validation of an idea. 'Thinking out of the box' has everything to do with fixed patterns, even if you don't know at first whether it will be successful. Flexibility and 'out of the box thinking' ultimately contribute to innovations and better team performance. And innovations again ensure process optimization. So if you're thinking that we let go of the patterns and do something completely different ... Nothing is less true. In our work, we're all unconsciously searching to make our own work easier and smarter.
